So it begins...

This blog consists of journal entries from my northbound thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. In our group is my wife, Cathrine, and my friend Derrick. We are starting in Damacus, VA because we were unable (due to a number of reasons, including our wedding) to start in march. This is when most northbounders start out in Georgia at Springer Mountain. So we are hiking from Damascus, up to Mount Katahdin in Maine, and once done we will do what's known as a flip-flop and catch a ride back down to Georgia to finish the first portion that we skipped, back up to Damascus.

Friday, we are headed to Damascus to spend the weekend to hang out at the Trail Days event that is held there every year. Cathrine and I look forward to renting some bikes and ride the Virginia Creeper Trail on Saturday and have plenty of rest and relaxation time before we finally hit the trail Sunday morning, May 18th.

I will be updating this blog from my phone with journal entries, stories, and pictures taken from the trail. Hopefully I will be able to update every 2 weeks or so.
